Festive boost for Food Bank stock

SONGS, Santa and a supermarket sweep are three of the latest ideas to boost supplies at MK Food Bank.

The songs start on Sunday when Real Music MK will be providing entertainment at the Christmas lights switch on ceremony at the Theatre District at 5.30pm. They are asking people to demonstrate their goodwill by placing an item of food under the Christmas tree near the theatre.

Welcome items are tinned meat, fish or veg, dried pasta or rice, long-life milk, teabags or cereals – providing they are waterproof.

A second stock booster will come in January in the form of a celebrity supermarket sweep at Asda at Bletchley. Ten celebs, yet to be confirmed, will be dashing round the aisles filling trolleys with goods, which the supermarket will then donate to the Food Bank.

Organisers are looking for companies to sponsor the trollies for £150 each. Volunteers should call 077881648113 or 07799497107.

And one city company sent its staff packing to help the Food Bank. Mirus IT solutions spent a month collecting food donations and sent seven employees to sort and stack the goods.
