Freemasons honour war hero at special Christmas lunch
A WAR veteran was given a rousing reception when he attended a special Christmas lunch in Stony Stratford laid on by the Freemasons.
George Spinks was guest of honour at the meal in St Giles’ Parish Rooms, organised by Roman Way Lodge, which meets regularly there.
Mr Spinks, 85, trained as an air gunner at Wing Airfield during World War Two, and then served as an RAF officer worker in Palestine, Iraq, and Egypt.
He was one of more than 40 pensioners who were invited to the event all of whom live in the Fegan’s Court and Magdalen Court sheltered housing schemes in the town.
Mick Hull, 63, is immediate past chair of Roman Way Lodge and a retired general manager, of Cottford Crescent, Great Linford.
He said: “Freemasonry is all about friendship, decency, and charity, so Christmas is the high-spot of the year for us. We owe so much to people like George who answered the call to arms to fight for the freedoms that we take for granted today.”
