Future of leisure centres and libraries in residents’ hands

A SERIES of meeting have been planned to inform residents how they can get more involved in running leisure facilities in their area.

Milton Keynes Council is running a Community Asset Transfer Programme which will allow communities to take over the day to day running of facilities such as leisure centres, libraries and open space in the town.

A number of information meetings are being held next week to give people the chance to hear more about the transfer of five community buildings from council control.

Paul Sanders, Community Facilities Unit assistant director, said “Each applicant has to undergo a robust process before the asset is considered for transfer.

“The council recognises the value of ‘localism’, enabling local community partners to take more responsibility for local assets and to empower these new arrangements with those organisations that may be best-placed to achieve this.”

Wednesday February 6: Denbigh Sports Hall (6-7pm)

Friday February 8: Shenley Brook End Community Centre (6-7pm)

Monday February 11: Great Holm Community Centre (6-7pm)

Tuesday February 12: Willen Pavilion (5.45-6.45pm)
