Here’s this week’s selection of volunteering opportunities from Community Action: MK - Living Archive Project is in need of a WW1 Website Project Volunteer.
The Living Archive have recently been awarded funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund to run a project to commemorate the First World War.
The Archive already has a lot of research on how the first World War affected people`s lives in Wolverton, New Bradwell and other areas that now make up Milton Keynes.
They want to make this archive material available online.
As part of a volunteering team you’ll be preparing content such as images and sound clips and then adding them to a new website.
Training will be given but volunteers would need to have confidence using computers and ideally have experience of adding content to websites and social media sites.
> Changes, an organisation that aims to provide affordable education and training to the community, wants a British Sign Language Teacher.
They are currently looking for a well organised, self motivated person to plan and run a British Sign Language class.
The volunteer will need to have excellent communication skills, proof reading and speaking skills; able to manage multiple projects; experience in teaching British Sign Language; qualified in British Sign Language with a minimum of level 2 qualification and good face to face etiquette. The volunteer will need to undergo a DBS check, be 18 - 55 years of age and be available Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturdays. This project will run until August 2014.
>Festive Road is a carnival arts company that engages in artistic, collaborative and creative activities.
They’re looking for volunteers to help them create Giant carnival puppets/structures which will take part in the annual ‘Walking with Giants’ community carnival parade through Central Milton Keynes on 20th July.
This role involves some creative ‘making’ skills: sewing, decorating, embellishing, cutting, sticking etc, as well as working with wood, metal, fabric and cardboard. There will also be some construction work i.e. helping to put the Giants together and testing its manoeuvrability – some technical and problem solving skills may well be needed at this point!
> Walking With Giants Carnival Parade Assistants are needed to support the Festive Road team on the Walking with Giants Parade Day (Sunday, July 20)
They are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help prepare for the parade, walk the route and then help de-rig at the end. The volunteers need to be prepared to be flexible and be ready to ‘muck in’! They rely on a team of volunteers on this very busy but immensely enjoyable and rewarding day – the parade just can’t happen without them.
