City MP Mark Lancaster has welcomed new figures showing that the Conservatives’ Help to Buy scheme is helping families to buy their own home.
Help to Buy is helping families to get on the housing ladder in MK, with 477 people able to access an affordable mortgage and buy their own home.
Mr Lancaster said: “As one of the fastest growing places in the UK, the Help to Buy scheme has proved to be a great success in delivering affordable homes and allowing Milton Keynes residents to get on the housing ladder as well as providing a major boost to our local economy.”
Across the UK nearly 40,000 people have been able to buy their own home; 80 per cent of those are first-time buyers.
The scheme is also giving builders the confidence to build, with the Equity Loan part of the scheme directly supporting demand for new-build homes.
Since the scheme was launched, private sector house building has increased dramatically here in Milton Keynes meaning that funds to build vital infrastructure here in the city have been released.
