Heroes drag woman to safety from bridge
The five heroes receive their commendation from LPA Commander Barry Halliday
It was a ‘no brainer’ for heroic Leanne Dennis when she came across a woman looking to commit suicide.
Leanne and her partner Nathan Grant pulled the would-be jumper to safety before waiting with her until emrgency services around.
The couple had been crossing a bridge on the way back to their Campbell Park home on August 9 when they saw the woman on the opposite side of the bridge, looking like she was preparing to jump.
Below, three drivers stopped their cars on the V8 Marlborough Street and called emergency services before running to help.
Leanne said: “It was a no-brainer. We approached her on either side and after asking if she was OK we grabbed her and pulled her down.”
They were joined by Lorraine and Tara Gregory and Tom Broom and the five stayed with the woman until emergency services arrived.
Leanne added: “I felt a little bit out of my depth so I’m glad the others were there. As soon as the police arrived the adrenaline wore off and I burst into tears. Days later the realisation set in that we had done something really good.”
The group were given commendations at the LPA Commander’s Ceremony on Friday.
