Hospice in £3.6m boost
Charity raises money it needs for the year
Staff at Willen Hospice are thrilled the charity was able to raise the 3.6million it needed for the year.
The specialist centre for people with cancer and life-limiting illness has been feeling the financial pinch over the last couple of years but a number of additional fundraising initiatives have helped it hit budget.
It is now hoped the budgeted loss of 450,000 will be the shortfall it will suffer.
The hospice ended the last financial year 400,000 under what it needed to raise, with that cash having to come out of the financial reserves to ensure that it continue its fantastic end-of-life care. And chief executive Paul Hinson has reiterated the need for support to keep the
centre going.
He said: "I am encouraged and extremely thankful for the backing shown by the local communities in response to our tough situation.
"Our shops, lottery and events are crucial in raising income for us and all areas have seen an increase in support in the last six months, alongside general donations from the public."
In the last year the first-ever MK midnight walk, the Midnight Moo, has so far raised 100,000 and the combined efforts of two team parachute jumps, involving staff, volunteers and supporters has raised over 30,000.
Mr Hinson added: "I know that if this support continues we can survive this period of uncertainty and remain a part of the community of Milton Keynes."
