The jury in the Rachel Manning murder trial has been discharged after failing to reach a verdict.

They had started their deliberations on Tuesday afternoon and spent a total of 24 hours and 20 minutes locked in negotiations.

On Friday the 12-strong jury was given a majority direction by the judge but still failed to achieve an outcome.

Shahidul Ahmed, a 41-year-old Indian restaurant worker from Bletchley, who was accused of the murder of Miss Manning, may now face a retrial.

Miss Manning’s body was found on a Woburn Golf Course in December 2000. Her boyfriend at the time, Barri White was acquitted of her murder after first being found guilty. He was released six years into his life sentence.
