A GESTURE of seasonal goodwill had a cuddly spin-off for the city’s IKEA store – in the form of 1,700 soft toys.

The bumper hoard was generated by the store’s Christmas tree charity scheme, when customers were given a free tree in exchange for a donation to the Soft Toys for Education appeal.

Bosses used the cash to buy the mountain of IKEA-made toys, which will now be distributed to three local children’s charities. And for every toy it ‘purchased’, the store made a donation of one euro to the educational appeal.

Nationally the IKEA Foundation has raised 47.5 million euros for Soft Toys for Education. This has helped more than eight million children worldwide get a better education.

Pictured among the toys are employees Charlie Jones, left, and Leanne Christian.
