AFTER turning down his first Royal invitation, Jerry Hardcastle went to Buckingham Palace last week to collect his OBE.

Named among the Queen’s Birthday Honours List in June 2012, the Vice President of Nissan Technical Centre Europe in Cranfield had an all-important business meeting when he was first invited to London to collect his medal and had to turn it down.

But finally on Friday, Jerry, from Gayhurst, went to Buckingham Palace with his family to collect his award for services to the UK Automotive Industry.

Jerry’s wife Jan said: “It was one of the best days of our lives together.

“We are all so proud of him and what he has achieved.

“When he was initially invited down to the Palace to receive his OBE, he had to turn it down because of a very important business meeting that he couldn’t get out of. I’m glad he got invited back again!”

Jerry has been a key part of Nissan’s operations for 23 years. Based at Nissan Technical Centre Europe, in Cranfield, UK, he has overseen the design and development of the Nissan Qashqai and Nissan Juke, as well as special projects such as the Juke-R.

Through his involvement in the New Automotive Innovation and Growth Team (NAIGT) Jerry contributed to the creation of the UK Automotive Council and currently holds the position of Chairman of the Technology Group which directly advises on UK automotive technology strategy.
