Whether you like the idea or not, a brand new all singing and all dancing super casino is about to become an integral part of the city’s landscape.
Brought to you by Aspers, which beat off competition from rival bids at the Leisure Plaza and stadium:mk to win the casino licence for Milton Keynes, the new £10 million, 36,500 sq ft gambling and entertaining hub at Xscape opens its door to the public for the first time on Thursday.
Work has been going on behind huge screens at the former City Limits site for more than 12 months, and now complete, the casino boasts 150 slot machines, 30 gaming tables, 27 screens showing sport from all over the world, a restaurant and several bars, creating 250 jobs.
The decision to award the casino licence in the heart of Milton Keynes was met with some opposition, especially given its proximity to some of the city’s most deprived areas, and several bars and clubs.
The casino’s bosses have promised to help problem gamblers, but for now it is just preparing for an influx of thousands of curious punters in the days and weeks ahead.
Whether you like it or not, the casino is about to become the talk of the town.
