The man charged with GBH following an incident in a Newport Pagnell pub on Saturday night is alleged to be a notorious paramilitary leader from Northern Ireland.

Mark Haddock, aged 45, was arrested after a 56-year-old man was assaulted at The Bull pub in Tickford Street shortly after 7.30pm.

Police say he sustained a head injury and cut to his face.

Haddock appeared at Milton Keynes Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday morning and has been remanded in custody to appear at Aylesbury Crown Court on February 4.

A member of the Ulster Volunteer Force (UVF), Haddock is alleged to have presided over one of the group’s most active units in north Belfast in the latter stages of the Troubles.
