Man dies after being hit by train at Milton Keynes Station
A MAN has died after being hit by a train at Milton Keynes Central station earlier today.
Emergency services were quickly on the scene after the incident which took place at 12:20pm when the man was struck by a southbound London Midland service.
He was taken to hospital by ambulance but later died. The air ambulance was also at the scene, but was not utilised.
A British Transport Police spokesman said: “Officers were called to Milton Keynes Central rail station following a report of a man being hit by a train.
“BTP and Thames Valley Police officers attended the incident which was reported to BTP at 12.22pm and is currently being treated as non-suspicious.
“Medics from South Central Ambulance Service also attended and a man was treated at the scene before being taken to Milton Keynes Hospital by ambulance, where he was pronounced dead shortly before 2pm.
“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the man’s identity and inform his family.”
Following the incident, Virgin Trains’ official Twitter account, @VirginTrains, tweeted: “NEW: Delays between Milton Keynes Central and Watford Junction until further notice. A person has been hit by a train at Milton Keynes Central.”
And London Midland account, @LondonMidland tweeted: “Milton Keynes update: Platforms 1 and 2A are currently closed at MK station, all other platforms are open.”
Trains were delayed by up to 30 minutes, but the two platforms have now been re-opened.
Commuters filled the platforms after the drama unfolded with many unsure what had happened. Other onlookers were visibly distraught and were offered help inside the train station.
One eyewitness told the Citizen: “All I saw was loads of police cars pull up and when I heard what had happened I was shocked.
“It is dreadful to hear. The emergency services looked as if they were doing a great job.”

Virgin Trains and London Midland are accepting tickets for alternative services. Southern services to South Croydon will not be running north of Watford Junction, and tickets between Milton Keynes and Watford will be accepted on London Midland services.
