Milton Keynes faces major council crisis
Unelected bureaucrats are running the city after Milton Keynes Council drove itself to the brink of collapse.
Opposition groups forced all major decision-making to be turned over to Council executives after failing to sack Lib Dem Council leader Isobel McCall and then blocking appointment of a full cabinet.
Tories and Labour insist Cllr McCall must step down as their price for co-operation with the Lib Dems, who now rule by a margin of a single seat over the Conservatives.
They demand she goes in line with an approved vote of no-confidence in her two months ago due to the school build scandal.
She was elected leader in a run-off against Tory and Labour group leaders who will now sit with her as a powerless cabinet.
The Tories vow to remove her at the June meeting of the Council when they will press for changes to the Council constitution.
Council lawyers warn the interim move to shift power away from elected councillors may be illegal and the Government could intervene through the High Court.
