A Milton Keynes girl’s short animation will be used as the official promotional video for a national campaign after winning a public vote.

Last month The Big Lunch launched a competition with animation filmmakers Aardman, in search of the next big animator and winner 13-year-old Tia Margan has now been tipped for a bright future.

The Big Lunch asked children between the ages of seven and 15 to produce a short Big Lunch film starring Morph, using the animation software Animate It!

A spokesman said: “We were overwhelmed by the fantastic entries received from all over the UK; so much time, effort and creativity had gone into them all. The judging panel – including Big Lunch communications manager Trudi Holden, Eden Project’s Lou Thorn and Aardman’s creative director Merlin Cressingham – found it very hard to whittle the entries down to four shortlists which went to a public vote on Facebook.

“After 24 hours of voting for the public’s favourite, a big congratulations goes to Tia Margan, aged 13 from Milton Keynes for Mad Morph Tea Party, now our official Big Lunch film for 2014!”

Tia won with 287 votes far ahead of her nearest rival which achieved 173 votes. She said: “My inspiration came from Wallace and Gromit and it took about a week to plan and sort out my props. I’m a keen animator and I would like to pursue animation as a career.”

As well as the accolade, Tia wins an exclusive workshop for up to 10 people with one of Aardman’s model makers.

Tia’s Mad Morph’s Tea Party can be viewed now via YouTube.

The Big Lunch was an idea which came from the Eden Project with the aim being to get as many people as possible across the whole of the UK to have lunch with their neighbours annually on the first Sunday in June in a simple act of community, friendship and fun.

Since starting in 2009, thousands of Big Lunches have taken place in all types of community across the UK. Last year 3.65 million people took to their streets, gardens and community spaces for the fifth annual Big Lunch. This year’s Big Lunch is on Sunday, June 1.

A Big Lunch can be anything from a few neighbours getting together in the garden or on the street, to a full blown street party with food, music and decoration that quite literally stops the traffic.
