Milton Keynes North MP, Mark Lancaster, joined children at an Italian restaurant to celebrate Food Revolution Day who were trying to break a world record.

On Friday, 30 pupils from Two Mile Ash Primary school visited Jamie’s Italian in the centre to make a healthy rainbow salad wrap at the same time as millions of others around the world.

They successfully achieved the Guinness World Record to get children cooking the same healthy food at the same time all around the world.

Katryna Down, host manager at Jamie’s Italian in Milton Keynes, said: “It was great to see the passion and enthusiasm from the children on the day, making their beautiful rainbow salad wraps.

“Every child got involved, and each presented their wrap slightly differently to show their artistic flair.

“Mark Lancaster also got stuck in with helping the children make their rainbow salad wraps, whilst also finding the time to make a cheeky one for himself.

“He looked like he was enjoying himself just as much as the children.”

The motive behind the day was to get as many children involved in cooking healthy food, and to tackle obesity and diabetes from a young age, not only in the UK, but worldwide.

Katryna adds that already more than 43 million children under the age of 5 are either overweight or obese.

“This is concerning, as obesity can lead to an increased chance of diabetes, and the children are more likely to live a shorter life than their parents. This is all due to the lack of accessible food education for children.

“It was great to see the children enjoying the taste of new food and being more adventurous with what they eat.

“As a restaurant and an ambassador for Jamie Oliver, our restaurant is continuing Jamie’s journey to inspire and educate children from a young age that healthy eating can be fun and exciting.”
