Free summer school encourages school leavers to increase their employability skills.

Training provider, Kaplan, is out to change recent bleak youth unemployment statistics by inviting students from years 11 to 13 in Milton Keynes to attend a free summer school to help them improve their employability skills and give them the opportunity to gain an insight into the world of work in Accounting, Tax, Audit and Financial Services.

The annual three day event will take place on July 30 to August 1 and is located in Milton Keynes local Kaplan centre on Elder Gate. Local employers and industry experts will be on hand, giving the young people advice on writing effective CVs and successfully applying for jobs.

Last year, the Government raised the participation age for education and training to 18 and specified apprenticeships as an accepted route to full time education for those who want to earn while they learn and gain some useful work experience.

Further information on Apprenticeships such as how much can be earned while working as an apprentice will be discussed and attendees will also have the chance to meet local, potential employers.

In addition, at the end of the programme, each young person will be presented with a certificate that can be added to their National Record of Achievement.

Surju Kanani, Kaplan’s Milton Keynes Centre Manager says: “Year after year, Kaplan’s summer school receives a lot of positive feedback from students and employers alike. We give hundreds of young people not only advice and tips, but a chance to be supported by Kaplan’s recruitment experts in the future and receive Apprenticeship training and employment opportunities.

“Some school leavers still don’t recognise Apprenticeships as a viable route to their career but there are hundreds of Apprenticeships out there, many of them in the professional services and business world.

“With high levels of unemployment and university fees sky high, Apprenticeships are becoming one of the best ways of achieving employability – and students need to know this.

“We are very grateful to the local employers who will be participating in the summer schools. They motivate the students and give them invaluable advice and in some cases, opportunities to get into work”

If you are interested in attending Kaplan’s free summer school please apply before June 15 by visiting: kaplanapprenticeships.co.uk/getting-started/summer-schools.
