WAKE up and smell the coffee.

Voting for the best cafe or coffee house in Milton Keynes is now underway.

The contest is just one category in this year’s Milton Keynes Food & Leisure Awards, backed by the Citizen.

It sets out to answer the question: ‘If Friends was set in MK where would they use as Central Perk?’

The competing cafes will be judged on five factors: Best quality coffee, value for money, service, consistency and best cakes.

Finalists are Tea Monkey in Midsummer Boulevard, Central Milton Keynes, John Lewis Express Bar, Coffee Boutique in Oxley Park, and Mange Tout in Stony Stratford.

People can vote by visiting the MK Food and Leisure Awards website at www.mkfla.co.uk

The awards, launched last year, aim to honour the best restaurants, pubs, hotels, chefs, gyms and destinations in the city.

It’s remit goes beyond simple food and drink with gongs for the best waiter or waitress, best hotel and the top attraction.

They aim to showcase the best restaurants in and around Milton Keynes, uncover those fabulous dishes, seek out the talented chefs and locate the best family and leisure locations.

The 2013 event will be held at Jury’s Inn in CMK on May 12.

Winners of each category will be selected by public vote, mystery dining and a panel of judged.

The best chefs in Milton Keynes will attend a live cook off at Milton Keynes College where they will make a starter, main and dessert for the judges, who will include Citizen deputy editor Craig Lewis.
