More people flocking to museum
Record year for heritage attraction
Milton Keynes Museum had something of its own to treasure this week - its 20,000th visitor of the year.
Six-year-old Michael Simpson, who was having a look round the Stacey Bushes venue with classmates from Holmwood First School, was presented with a certificate to mark the occasion.
All of the children were given passes to make a free return visit with parents.
Bill Griffiths, director of the museum - whose year runs April to March - said: "We thought that we were doing well 10 years ago when we reached 10,000 visitors.
"But this is a real achievement and all down to the hard work of our
volunteers.
"This is a beautiful and historic site and our long-term aim is to become a leading museum and yet still belong to the whole community."
The museum is thought to be the biggest in the country run almost entirely by volunteers.
Milton Keynes Council cabinet member for heritage Councillor Vanessa McPake was at the museum to present Michael with his certificate.
She praised work by the venue to improve facilities.
She said it was a big achievement for the museum to attract 2,000 more visitors than last year and congratulated Bill Griffiths and the volunteer staff.
