Milton Keynes College students welcomed City MP Iain Stewart to give a lecture on the relationship between MPs and law making.
The audience, made up of mostly A-Level Law students, learnt how MPs can influence law making in the House of Commons, from Select Committees to Acts of Parliament. After the lecture students and teachers were also given the opportunity to ask any question they wished.
Mr Stewart said, “It was a really enjoyable morning, the students showed a real interest and were eager to ask questions.”
“There was a good variety, one student asked my feelings on the EU another asked what I would ask if given the opportunity to introduce a Private Members Bill. They showed a very good level of knowledge on the parliamentary process and politics in general. It was pleasing to see.”
Duncan Lovell, Head of the A-Level courses at Milton Keynes College, said: “Here at the college we always try to bring subjects to life for our students by bringing in guest speakers. Iain’s talk supported what they have been learning about the law-making process and I thought that he dealt well with some challenging questions from them.”
