A new Parcelforce depot, officially opened by both city MPs, will look to bring 100 new jobs into Milton Keynes.

Mark Lancaster and Iain Stewart opened the new Parcelforce Worldwide depot as part of the company’s UK-wide expansion programme. In total, it is expected up to around 100 jobs will be created in Milton Keynes over the next three years.

The new Milton Keynes operation is one of 12 new, expanded or improved depots by Parcelforce Worldwide in the past year. It has also opened a new purpose-built parcels processing centre in Chorley, Lancashire. This is in addition to Parcelforce Worldwide’s existing national and international hubs in Coventry.

The 8,868 square metre depot in Michigan Drive, has nearly three times the floor space of the previous site in Dunsby Road. It has the capacity to hold up to 116 vehicles and handle up to thirty thousand parcels a day. The increased capacity will enable Royal Mail Group’s express parcels business to meet the growth in demand in the business-to-business, business-to-consumer and consumer-to-consumer parcels markets.

Mr Stewart, MP for Milton Keynes South said: “I am delighted that Parcelforce Worldwide is expanding its Milton Keynes operation. I welcome the creation of local jobs for constituents which create a real boost for the local economy.”

Mr Lancaster, MP for Milton Keynes North, said: “As well as being a UK and international parcel delivery service, Parcelforce Worldwide is a local business and employer. I’m pleased that businesses and individuals in Milton Keynes can benefit from this service.”

Tony Flint, Area General Manager of Parcelforce Worldwide, said: “I am delighted that Iain Stewart and Mark Lancaster were able to officially open Parcelforce Worldwide’s new Milton Keynes depot. This depot is an essential part of our investment to grow our business. It will enable us to handle more parcels for the Milton Keynes areas while ensuring we continue to provide a very high level of service to all of our customers.”
