Musicians invited to innovative workshop

People with a passion for music and a creative flair are being given the opportunity to learn how to write their own songs, thanks to an innovative workshop from Milton Keynes Council’s Music Service.

Led by professional singer-songwriter, Steve Winch, the one day course will cover everything from the basic rules of theory and chord progression to melody writing, lyrics and word setting.

David Rose, head of the council’s Music Service, said: “Milton Keynes is an exciting place for those who love music and want to learn more about it. The song writing workshop will give guidance and encouragement to participants in developing their ability to song write, whilst having fun at the same time.”

“The one day workshop is suitable for young people and adults aged 16-and-over, helping GCSE and A-Level music students learn new skills, supporting those starting out in a band or on their own as singer-songwriters and teaching those who are interested in music how to develop a new talent.”

The song writing workshop starts at 9am on March 23 at Shenley Brook End School in Wallbank Grove. There will be a charge of £20 per person – please book in advance – and participants are asked to take the musical instruments they normally play with them as well as any compositions, songs or lyrics they would like to work on in the session.
