Passengers are currently experiencing disruption between Milton Keynes Central and London Euston due to a signalling problem following engineering works over the weekend.

The issue between Harrow & Wealdstone and Wembley Central is causing delays of up to 20 minutes to trains between Milton Keynes Central and London Euston/Shepherds Bush until further notice.

It comes after Network Rail’s £81m improvement plan to replace 12 miles of track, signalling equipment and overhead power lines in the Watford area, meant the line was closed between Hemel Hempstead and London Euston between May 3 to 5.

Today’s signalling problems will affect London Midland and Virgin Trains between Milton Keynes Central and London Euston and Southern trains between Milton Keynes Central and Clapham Junction.

A Network Rail spokesman said: “This weekend’s closure was essential to allow us to start the work to modernise the infrastructure in the Watford area as part of our commitment to provide a reliable railway for the millions of passengers who use this route every year.

“We apologise for the delays caused as a result of the late hand back of the line.

“Everything possible was done to complete the work on time, and we will review what happened to determine what lessons can be learnt so future work at Watford can be delivered and completed as planned.”
