Members of a city residents’ association who wanted their own war memorial in Coffee Hall are on target to finish the project – in time for Remembrance Sunday.
Residents explained the memorial at Woughton on the Green no longer felt like theirs following parish boundary changes so launched a project to build a new one outside Christ the Vine Church.
After gaining planning permission the residents’ association got help from a number of builders’ merchants who supplied free materials.
Andy Tomlinson-Smith, one of many who has helped organise the new memorial, said: “After the boundary changes we didn’t have a memorial of our own in Coffee Hall. It’s amazing. So many people have supported us and volunteered their time. It shows how many people want to remember.
“We have had support from people of all religions and that is wonderful. This will be a memorial for anyone who has lost someone and wants to remember them.”
Pupils from Milton Keynes Academy are currently carving the cross for the memorial which will be unveiled before Remembrance Sunday.
