Nurses victims of car wrecking spree

CROOKS are targeting nurses by smashing up their cars in the hospital staff car park while they are caring for patients, the Citizen can reveal.
Eleven cars were broken into and damaged in one night alone on Monday.
The weary hospital workers finished their night shifts to find their car windows smashed and the bodywork scratched.
One vehicle belonging to critical care unit sister Ailsa Williams was so badly damaged that it will probably be written off.
“There wasn’t anything in the car to steal but they did try to take the car. It was such a shock,” said Ailsa.
“I guess I’m angry, but I’m not normally an angry person. So instead I just feel sad,” she said.
All the cars were parked in the hospital’s multi-storey car park in an area clearly marked for staff only.
“The offenders knew these were cars belonging to people working at the hospital,” said an MKGH spokesman.
But the crooks look set to get their comeuppance as the car park has an excellent CCTV system and the hospital has already supplied good quality images of them to the police.
Security patrols have also been stepped up to prevent further attacks.
Hospital security and car parks manager Alan Brooks said: “We are extremely disappointed about these incidents, which have caused an enormous amount of distress to our staff.
“We will be doing everything we can to help the police catch and prosecute the offenders.”
