The man who built the country’s first solar heated house right here in Milton Keynes has been awarded an OBE in the New Year’s Honours list.
John Doggart is a trustee of the National Energy Foundation at Knowhill.
A former Milton Keynes Development architect, he put the city on the tourist map in 1972 when he turned a Bradville terrace into a fully solar-powered home.
Mr Doggart went on to design the first energy rating system for housing and has worked all over the world on green projects.
Delighted Dr Kerry Mashford, head of the National Energy Foundation, said: “John is one of our longest-serving trustees.
“We are proud to be associated with him. He thoroughly deserves this public honour in recognition of his work.”
