THE family of Rachel Manning has thanked all those who aided the trial as their 12-year wait for justice goes on.

The four-week trial concluded today with the jury failing to reach a majority verdict, as directed by the judge on Friday afternoon. They had previously retired for deliberation on Tuesday afternoon.

The Manning family statement said: “We would like to thank the people who have aided this trial and hope that justice can be served in the future.”

The defendant, 41-year-old Shahidul Ahmed from Chestnut Crescent, Bletchley will remain in custody.

Detective Chief Superintendent, Rob Mason, the senior investigating officer in the case said: “Obviously we are disappointed that the jury has been unable to return a verdict in this trial.

“Our thoughts are with Rachel’s family who have remained dignified and courageous throughout despite the unimaginable nightmare they have endured over the last twelve years. I am extremely sorry that they have been put through this ordeal once again.

“It is our intention and that of the CPS, with the support of Rachel’s family, that there will be a retrial in this case.”
