OU recruits top names for Darwin celebrations

TV big-hitters lined up

Sir David Attenborough, Andrew Marr, Professors Steve Jones and Richard Dawkins and Jimmy 'Jimmy's Farm' Doherty are among those spearheading year-long celebrations of the 'father' of Evolution Charles Darwin.

2009 marks the 200th anniversary of Darwin's birth and 150 years since his theories of evolution were first published.

Through its 40-year old link with the BBC the Open University has co-produced a number of major TV and online offerings.

On Sunday Sir David Attenborough presented his personal views in Charles Darwin and the Tree of Life and in the autumn he narrates a blockbuster 10-parter - LIFE shot in HD.

In March Andrew Marr presents Darwin's Dangerous Idea about the impact of his theories with Jimmy Doherty recreating Darwin's experiments on his farm.

March 17 sees the annual OU broadband lecture with evolutionary expert Prof Richard Dawkins. Webcast at www.openuniversity.co.uk/darwin
