Milton Keynes’ singer-songwriter sensation, fifteen-year-old Bailey McConnell, is through to the live semi-finals of Britain’s Got Talent.

The Milton Keynes College music student from Crownhill was given the thumbs up by the judges on Sunday night’s show when the two hundred remaining acts were whittled down to just forty.

Reacting to the news that he will perform to millions of people this week, former Milton Keynes Citizen delivery boy Bailey said: “It’s absolutely amazing and totally surreal. I really didn’t think for one minute I’d get this far that it’s actually quite overwhelming.

“I really want to thank my parents and friends and the people at the College who’ve helped me get this far. Now it’s down to whether people out around the country like what I’m doing.

“All I know is that people in Milton Keynes have been so supportive – just wonderful, and I hope they’re willing to vote for me in the semi.”

Celebrity judge, David Walliams gave Bailey the news in the most nerve-wracking style. He said, “It was very difficult to make a decision particularly a unanimous one.

“We’ve had such a high standard this year, but we have made a decision. I’m so sorry. We’re sending you home – to go and work on your acts.“

The budding superstar’s mum, Tonia, is also a student at the College where she’s studying hairdressing.

“Words can’t describe how proud we all are of Bailey,” said Tonia.

“All you ever want as a parent is for your children is to be happy and do well and Bailey has done that by being himself and doing what he loves.

“We’re actually in shock; it’s amazing to see your son get through to the semi-finals of BGT – it’s just something we never thought we’d be saying.

“We’re so thankful other people have recognised his talent too.

“We’re a very close family and we all can’t wait to be there at the semi-finals to cheer him on.”

Bailey’s Programme Manager at Milton Keynes College, Ashley Spiers says, “Bailey has tremendous ability and potential and his success on Britain’s Got Talent is a result of hard work and perseverance.

“Everyone in the department and the College as a whole is delighted and we will all be backing him and voting for him next week.

“It’s very satisfying and exciting when someone you teach puts their lessons into practice with such spectacular results.”
