Olympic hero Greg Rutherford has been rewarded for his achievements at the London 2012 Olympics with an MBE.
The long jump gold medalist was named along with several other Olympians in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours list. Rutherford was part of ‘Super Saturday’ on August 4 which saw Jessica Ennis and Mo Farah also pick up gold medals in a magical night for Greath British athletics.
Taking on Twitter, Rutherford said: “Cant wait to receive my MBE. What an absolute honour! Over the moon to say the least! I wanted to shout about it as soon as I received the letter.
“Well done to everyone being honoured. Hugely deserved! I wish everyone from London 2012 could receive an honour. It’s been an amazing year!”
Elsewhere in the city, Jabeer Karim Butt received an OBE, Caroline Ward was given an MBE and Bletchley Park hero Raymond ‘Jerry’ Roberts was given an MBE.
