Parents raise over £17,000 for Air Ambulance service

A 'promise' to say thanks for their son's life

The parents of a young boy who suffered horrific injuries after a car accident have raised more than 17,000 for the air ambulance service which helped save his life.

James and Finola Godber decided they wanted to give something back to the Thames Valley And Chiltern Air Ambulance service after son Tom fractured his skull in three places, broke his left leg and suffered bruising to the brain following the incident in May.

Finola, of Lavendon, said: "Just minutes after his fourth birthday party ended, Tom was involved in a collision with a car. We knew immediately that we needed emergency treatment and that the air ambulance people would be called out.

"The crew were fantastic, they stabilised and sedated Tom before his transfer to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford but all the time were reassuring us and telling us what was happening.

"And the new helicopter they used meant his daddy could travel the 15-minute journey to hospital with Tom."

Despite his horrific injuries, Tom is at home and recovering well from his injuries.

He was even on hand last week to visit the air ambulance base at RAF Benson to present a cheque for 17,000 to Dr John Chatterjee, who was on duty that day, after his parents organised a fundraiser.

Finola added: "We really wanted to give something back to Thames Valley And Chiltern Air Ambulance to thank them for saving Tom's life.

"We decided to hold an auction of promises and invite friends over for a fun evening.Everyone was unbelievably generous. We are so thrilled with the success of our event and excited about being able to hand over such a large cheque as our way of saying thank you for rescuing our little boy."

Carl Undery, community fundraising manager for the trust, said: "We rely entirely on the generosity of our

supporters to help raise the 2 million required each year to keep your air ambulance

flying and it is always wonderful to meet the people who have been helped."
