The chairman of a football club which hosted a youth match that descended into a ‘brawl’ has pledged any players involved will be banned.
Witnesses described widespread fighting breaking out between players in the Under 18s match between Southside United and Newport Pagnell Youth on Sunday last week.
Gary Singleton, chairman of Southside, said: “We are an FA charter standard club of 20 years standing. We pride ourselves on being a very well run club which operates a code of conduct and strict disciplinary procedures. This incident is completely out of character, both for the club and that particular team.
“We totally regret what happened and we are totally intolerant of abuse – any members found conducting themselves in that way will be banned.
“Investigations are under way in conjunction with the FA and the referee is compiling a report. We are collecting witness statements and will make a decision on disciplinary procedures once this is complete.”
The Citizen was unable to reach Newport Pagnell Youth for comment.
