Prospective MP is not from MK

LABOUR’S controversial women-only Member of Parliament rule has taken another twist as the candidate for MK North is about to be decided.

For it has been revealed that neither of the female candidates is a resident of Milton Keynes.

Last week city Labour officials were open about the fact that candidate number one, Rebekah Peterson, was a train driver from Leighton Buzzard.

They were more reticent about candidate number two Emily Darlington.

She was described to the Citizen by two officials as a “Milton Keynes girl” with husband, child and family in the area.

But they did not reckon for the blogging abilities of Emily’s father-in-law, the copious online writer Roger Darlington.

Roger, who blogs as Nighthawk and writes the CommsWatch column, frequently mentions his daughter-in-law at her London home.

This month he described how he loves picking up Emily’s two-year-old daughter from her nursery near South Bank.

City Labour party organiser Kevin Wilson said: “There has been no deception at all about where Emily lives.

“It is true that she has a home in London but she spends a huge amount of time in Milton Keynes because she has family here. In fact, she is on the electoral register here.”

It is understood Emily uses the Ashland address of her mother-in-law Carol Baume, who is the agent for Labour’s MK South candidate Andrew Pakes and the membership secretary for the city.

Mr Wilson said: “Milton Keynes Labour Party has followed normal rules for the selection of a candidate.”

The deciding vote for the MK candidate will be held on Saturday.
