Public toilet will be transformed into radio studio

The council has agreed to give Community Radio Milton Keynes a £1 a year lease on the disued public convenience in Newport Pagnell.

The building, which is by the Tickford Street cemetary, has also been granted full planning permission to become an internet radio studio.

City councillor Paul Alexander is one of the volunteers who run CRMK radio, which has been struggling to find affordable premises for years.

“We’ve been going for 35 years - we used to be Cable Radio MK. But some of the rents we were paying for business premises were crippling and we were almost at the point where we had to call it a day,” he said.

“The disused toilet block may be small but it’s perfect for us. We plan to do it up and open the studio as soon as possible.”

CRMK presenters plan to provide an “eclectic” music service with specialist shows covering a wide range of musical genres.
