A top British racing driver had his race helmet stolen when thieves broke into his car in Olney last night.

Joe Osborne’s helmet, which is worth £1,000, was stolen from his Volkswagen car while it was parked in Midland Road, Olney.

The helmet, an Arai GP5, is well-worn and features a very original design, with Osborne’s name featuring prominently on it too.

It features red, blue and yellow blocks with a white band on the crest.

A friend said: “While it isn’t his current race helmet, it has a high sentimental value to him as it is the helmet used early on in his racing career, and is now used for when he carries out race instruction with budding race drivers.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Thames Valley Police on 101
