Rail bonuses "unacceptable", says Labour spokesman

Pakes adds to criticism of rewards for Network Rail chiefs

Network Rail's decision to pay bosses big bonuses has provoked furious reaction from commuters who have struggled with delays and cancellations on West Coast Mainline.

Senior executives will pocket a total of over 1.2million in extra payments this year.

Milton Keynes North Labour parliamentary candidate Andrew Pakes said: "Network Rail has lost the plot if it thinks passengers and staff will understand this latest news. The current performance of the railways is simply unacceptable and I cannot see how these excessive and out-of-place payments can be justified."

Rail staff union TSSA said the announcement of bonuses showed "contempt" for passengers and workers.
