Facebook users will be able to help raise money for MK Food Bank all with the click of a button in December.

Through this month The Hub is running a Facebook campaign to raise much needed funds for the charity where every new ‘like’ The Hub gets on its Facebook page £1 will be donated to MK Food Bank.

The charity provides local families and individuals with essential food supplies at a time when they need it most, covering the days or sometimes weeks before other parts of the social care infrastructure are in place.

MK Food Bank was chosen as the charity to support as The Hub has over 10 restaurants and other food service outlets and it seemed apt to support this worthy local charity especially at this time of year. The Hub ran a similar campaign last year and managed to raise more than £500 for the local charity which they are aiming to exceed this year.

Simon Spavins, Managing Director of Broadoak Management, the managing agent for The Hub, said: “The social media community really got behind this campaign last year and we wanted to show our continued support again this year. MK Food Bank is the ideal local charity given that The Hub is the city’s primary restaurant quarter.”

Rebecca Savage, from MK Food Bank, said: “We rely almost solely on the support of the local community and without companies like The Hub raising funds for us we just wouldn’t be able to provide this service. The Hub regularly comes up with creative ways of raising money for MK Food Bank and last year their ‘like’ campaign raised over £500 which helped feed many families during the extremely tough winter of 2012/13.”

MK Food Bank distributed just over 9,000 food packs in 2012 and a typical single adult food pack costs around £15 to produce, so donations of both food and money are critical to enable the charity to keep providing this much needed service.
