Salden Chase plans ‘will bring jobs’ if given the go-ahead

THE consortium proposing to build at Salden Chase say nearly 1,500 jobs will be created if their new estate is granted planning permission.

The land, situated between the racecourse estate in Bletchley and Newton Longville, was part of an earlier scheme, but was formally withdrawn at the request of Aylesbury Vale District Council in 2010.

Following feedback from councillors and residents in the neighbouring area, the new proposal, by the South West Milton Keynes Consortium, has been resubmitted with a number of changes.

It will now consist of up to 1,850 homes, down from 5,000 initially, including affordable housing, and also a new primary school, nursery, local centre, footpath and cycle ways, areas of green space and an employment area.

The development is expected to create up to 474 new jobs during the construction period, plus opportunities for new apprenticeships. Once built, SWMK believe Salden Chase could generate 700 new jobs in education, retail, and domestic services. The proposed new employment area would also create opportunities for more than 1,470 people.

Richard Astle, a spokesman for the consortium, said: “This new proposal for South West Milton Keynes is the only application being submitted by the consortium. It has no plans to develop any other area of the site.”

Two public exhibitions showing the plans will take place in Newton Longville and in Bletchley later this year.
