A new lunchtime shuttle bus service will be launched next week for Tilbrook business estate staff in Milton Keynes to travel to Kingston retail centre.

The new service is an initiative of the Tilbrook Travel Hub and will provide an easy and sustainable travel option for up to 1,700 members of staff to reduce car use during the day.

Travel on service 51 will cost £2 return, will run between 12 noon and 2pm every 20 minutes, and is being run by bus company Z&S Transport.

The Tilbrook scheme is co-ordinated by sustainable travel specialist, Go Travel Solutions as part of its Smartgo Milton Keynes initiative and is supported by a number of local businesses on the Tilbrook estate including Red Bull Technology, Trek UK, T-Systems, PPSGB, Kingston Foods and Sansetsu.

The Tilbrook Travel Hub has been developed following an estate-wide travel survey of the 22 businesses based at Tilbrook, initiated by Red Bull Technology and organised by Go Travel Solutions.

The travel hub is working on a range of other initiatives including helping staff to reduce the need to commute by car and as single drivers, which include encouraging car sharing and developing a bike buddy scheme.

Louise Watson at Red Bull Technology said: “Listening to our team’s responses from our travel survey it was evident that there is not only a huge desire within our staff to reduce single car occupancy, but also to be able to access the wide range of shops and amenities during the working week.

“We are really looking forward to the opportunity to have a Tilbrook Estate to Kingston bus service and hope it is a success over the trial period. Many thanks to Toby and Z & S for pushing this forward and making it happen.”

Toby Parsons from Z&S Transport said: “We’ve been delighted to support the Tilbrook Travel Hub and to work with local businesses to design this new service.

“The research completed by Go Travel Solutions and the commitment of Red Bull and other major employers in Tilbrook have together made it possible for Z&S Transport to invest confidently in this new route.

“We believe it can offer a model for other parts of Milton Keynes and for further improvements in Tilbrook.”

Andrew Bannister, Chairman of Smartgo Milton Keynes added: “The recent launch of Smartgo Milton Keynes provides local businesses with a proven programme to support them with commuting and business travel challenges.

“The formation of the Tilbrook Travel Hub model and the shuttle bus service have now followed this launch and we are looking forward to seeing how we can work with other estates and business parks in Milton Keynes to resolve travel issues for their staff such as congestion, parking and health & safety.”
