INDEPENDENT tourism experts Destination MK has appointed a new chief executive.
Steven Gordon-Wilson has joined the information provider from Xscape, where he previously worked as Head of Marketing and Promotions.
“I’ve been actively involved in the operation of DMK through my work at Xscape and I believe that my experience of the local tourist economy coupled with my passion for Milton Keynes will help me lead DMK through what is going to be an exciting few years,” said Mr Gordon-Wilson.
“As a member of DMK, I’ve always championed the work that they do and done my utmost to get involved wherever I could.
“I was thrilled to be offered this position, especially in such a competitive field of candidates – I can’t wait to get to work.”
Mr Gordon-Wilson was also keen to thank Jackie Inskipp, who is retiring as the company’s general manager.
“Jackie worked tirelessly for DMK and Milton Keynes, and has left big shoes for me to fill,” he added.
DMK chairman, Dr. Ann Limb OBE, said: “The Board was delighted with the quality and calibre of the applicants for the post of CEO at DMK, indicating a high level of interest in the organisation, as well as confidence in the significant role DMK plays locally and nationally as a destination marketing organisation.
“We are delighted that we have been able to recruit a worthy successor to Jackie Inskipp from among our growing private sector membership and that Steven Gordon-Wilson, a highly qualified and well respected marketing professional, has accepted the position.
“The Board looks forward to working with Steven and all our partners to promote the visitor economy by marketing Milton Keynes as a premier destination for tourists, businesses and inward investors from the UK and overseas.”
Mr Gordon-Wilson will begin work with the team in March.
DMK has a number of major projects on its radar this year, including the recently launched MK video, the Rugby World Cup 2015 bid, DMK’s presence at CONFEX 2013 and delivery of Milton Keynes’ Destination Management Plan.
