Student charged full fare for cardboard passenger
No Caption ABCDE
A STUNNED student had a case of ‘card luck’ when he was charged a full bus fare for a life-sized cardboard cut-out.
MK College student Liam Sheridan carried the cardboard cut-out of the main character from the popular Xbox game Gears of War on his bus journey home to Furzton. But the 17-year-old was shocked after getting on the number seven Arriva service outside The Point and was told by the bus driver: “It takes up a seat, so it’s full price.”
Despite showing his monthly bus pass, Liam says he was charged £1.80 for a full adult fare in addition to his own fare.
After disputing the need to pay the extra fare Liam eventually coughed up in order to be able to carry the cut-out on board with him and get home.
Liam said: “It was truly bizarre, I couldn’t quite believe it.
“I tried to protest but the driver wasn’t going to let me on otherwise, so I had to pay him.”
A spokesman for bus company Arriva remained tight-lipped about the incident and said: “Until a full investigation has been carried out, there is no way we can comment.”

Friday, December 2, 2011 at 02:50 PMHow ridiculous. Why do we keep hearing of stories where people are treated in this way? Do parents with children have to pay for the buggies? Or do shoppers with lots of bags have to pay extra? This is simply bullying from the Bus driver. Arriva should compensate Liam for being treated this way.
