Students make the news - by making the news

Youngsters become newshounds and hunt out the stories

Students from Milton Keynes Academy have made the news - by producing the news.

The Year 9 youngsters took part in a new project where they became the eyes, ears and voice of current affairs.

Pupils worked as real-life reporters over the past couple of weeks to

capture stories.

The newly-appointed 'newshounds' then turned their exclusives into a variety of media ready for consumption.

Performing arts teacher Darren Thomson said: "It's been a fantastic experience for them.

"The children involved had only ever watched television before, but within a fortnight they have learned skills to produce professional news reports from scratch.

"They have impressed everyone with their outstanding enthusiasm and talent."

The project is part of BBC News School Report and also involved Milton Keynes community internet channel AskMK.tv.
