Tea at No 10 for young high flyer

Young entrepreneur Mickey invited to meet PM Gordon Brown

A young wheeler dealer was shocked to receive an official letter from Downing Street recognising his achievements as a young entrepreneur.

But he was even more taken aback when he realised it was an invitation to dinner with the Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

Budding businessman Mickey Collins, 14, said he couldn't believe his eyes when he got the letter inviting him to a special 'do' at Number 10 to celebrate small businesses.

The teenager, who lives in Cosgrove, has run his own stall selling boating memorabilia and boating utilities along the Grand Union Canal since the age of 11.

He said he first thought the letter was a joke.

But as reality set in so did delight at the prospect of meeting the Prime Minister and he is now looking forward to making the trip down to London next Thursday.

Proud dad Martin Collins said: "Mickey is believed to be the youngest member of the Federation of Small Businesses.

"He had to join the organisation to get round the employment laws and to enable him to open the stall. If he was employed by someone else he would not have legally have been allowed to work."

But while Mickey might still be young in years, he has the business sense and work ethic of someone much older.

Said Mickey: "To raise the cash to buy the stall and stock I went round cutting grass and taking people on boat trips.

"Since then it has grown slightly, I've been able get different types of stock and made a bit of money. Enough to buy an Xbox anyway."

Mickey is now busy getting himself a posh suit for his big night out while dad Martin is still coming to terms with his son's success.

Added Mr Collins: "I am chuffed to bits. I am so proud of him. He's such a good lad, I can't fault him at all, apart from not picking his socks up off the floor of his bedroom."
