Jay Brown recovering at Milton Keynes Hospital after his Christmas ordeal

A BRAVE teenager spent Christmas in hospital after risking his life defending his mum from a knife-wielding gate-crasher.

Jay Brown, from Eaglestone, was stabbed as he tried to defuse a fight in his sister’s bedroom as the family threw a house-party on Christmas Eve.

Suffering spleen and kidney damage, Jay bravely chased his attacker out of the house, not telling anyone he’d been stabbed until he got back.

“I was just concerned for my mum,” said the 17-year-old, speaking from his hospital bed.

“We were having a party but I wasn’t really in the mood because I’d been out for a few nights already and wanted a quiet night. I heard some commotion from my sister’s room and heard my mum shouting so I went to see what was happening.

“When I got in there, there were some guys fighting and one shoved my mum. That’s when I got involved. Someone swung at me and got me in the side. So I chased after him, but I didn’t tell anyone what happened right away.

“I just wanted to get him.

“I went in there because I’d heard my mum shouting, I was just looking out for her and my sister.”

Paula Wakefield, Jay’s mum, said he was never one to get in trouble, and was looking forward to joining up with the army in early January after two years as a junior.

“This is never a situation I ever expected to find him in,” she said.

“He has never been in trouble and he something like this happens.

“We cancelled Christmas. No-one was really in the mood to celebrate after what happened to Jay. We’re just glad he’s still here. It could have been so much worse.

“It was touch and go whether he’d need an operation because he was bleeding internally and he might have caused serious damage to his spleen.

“We hope it doesn’t affect his career in the army because he’s worked so hard to get to where he is now.”

Police confirmed that a 20-year-old man was been arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent. He released and bailed until Tuesday February 12.
