Dawn Maxwell is today celebrating that her beloved whippet has been found safe and sound four days after being hit by a cyclist and vanishing from sight.

In last week’s paper, the Citizen reported Dawn had set up a Facebook page called Help Find Zeus, which inspired more than 300 people to join in on the search.

As the paper was delivered to homes across the city, a member of the group spotted Zeus near to HULA animal rescue in Aspley Guise – three miles away from where he had gone missing near Magna Park.

Owner Dawn said: “The man had made it his mission on his lunch break to join in the search for Zeus.

“He knew Zeus is a very nervous dog so he patiently waited, watching him while giving me running commentary on his movements.”

Despite a few aches, pains and extreme exhaustion, Zeus is back home – and delighted to be reunited with Dawn.

She added: “This whole experience has restored my faith in humanity. I would like to thank every single person who helped to make his return happen.”
