Just days after receiving his MBE, Greg Rutherford has been honoured again - this time in the form of a mural at his old athletics track.

A team of four artists from Arkade Graphics have been busy with their spray cans at the Milton Keynes Athletics Club track in Stantonbury, designing and painting the tribute to the Olympic gold medallist and fellow Milton Keynes athlete Mervin Luckwell, who competed in the javelin in London last year.

The team of Vapor, Brax, Piewaste - who painted the concrete cows as skeletons - and Arkade, real name Neil Kean, took advantage of the good weather over the weekend to get the piece completed.

Neil said: “We’ve worked our backsides off in the last two days to get it finished! We started in December, but could only get a day or of painting in because of the weather.

“We were asked to do it by the Athletics Club to paint the containers as a tribute to the guys who went to the Olympics and their achievements.

“I knew Greg and Mervin were local guys when I painted a previous piece for the club a few years ago with Slated Row School - their names were on the list of top athletes to have come through Milton Keynes, so I kept an eye out for them in the Olympics.

“I think it’s a piece they intend to keep for a while. Hopefully in a few years time we’ll have another one to paint with another gold medallist from Milton Keynes.”
