VIDEO: Citizen unveils bold new look at thecentre:mk

The new look Citizen was unveiled on Thursday with hundreds of you turning out to a meet and greet event at thecentre:mk.

Shoppers stopped to chat to members of the news and advertising teams and to pick up a copy of the new look Citizen and free goodie bag.

Many of you even took the trouble to stop and tell us what you think - and to congratulate us on the new look newspaper and applaud the launch of our hard hitting campaign for a new A&E at Milton Keynes Hospital.

Editor Olga Norford said: “The relaunch was a great success. It was wonderful to see so many people and receive the positive feedback. We’re delighted our readers like the new format and want to thank everyone for their comments and for pledging support for our campaign.

“We hit the ground running - launching the campaign to coincide with the newspaper relaunch but it’s been worth all the effort. The response has been overwhelming - we now hope as many of you as possible get behind this initiative which has the support of both city MPs, Mark Lancaster and Iain Stewart and sign our online petition.

“The A&E was designed to cater for 20,000 patients when it was built in the 80s. It now sees 73,000 patients a year and that figure is set to grow as the city gets bigger. The facts speak for themselves. Our petition will go direct to government with the message demanding urgent action is taken now to provide an A&E facility fit for the 21st century, fit for purpose and fit for you - our readers.”

Some of the comments about the new look Citizen have included:

What I most liked is:

> That you’ve given yourselves an identity – the photo of the team and the contact details with every article. I think that sends a great message about accountability and approachability too!

> The campaign, which is a really inspired one to launch with. There won’t be a single reader who hasn’t turned up at A&E and felt even worse when they learned they faced a 4-6 hour wait. The waiting times and the treatment there is an absolute disgrace, and when people praise the NHS I have to work hard to remember the good things that are done because the first thing that comes to mind is MK A&E.

Others stated they loved the new modern design , the news, features , bigger sports section and leisure plus the Motors, Property and Education supplements which all add up to a bumper 200-page Citizen.

Let us know what you think of the new look Citizen by emailing editorial@mkcitizen.co.uk or via our Twitter and Facebook sites.
