A TEENAGER has made it through to the regional finals of the 2013 Teen Star competition.
Euan Emerton, 13, from Wolverton, progressed to the regional finals after an audition in Birmingham last Saturday.
The regional final will take place at the NEC in Birmingham on March 23. If Euan wins, he will make the grand final at the O2 in London in July, The contest will be judged by radio DJs, singers and the head of music entertainment company BGM.
He said, “I’m really looking forward to the finals. I enjoy being on stage and doing these performances is pretty exciting.”
Euan has written his own songs for the competition, unlike his rivals who sang cover songs.
He added: “I like performing my own songs. It’s a great encouragement to be playing my songs on such a big stage. Going through re-assured me writing my own songs was the right move.
“I started writing my own songs before I knew I was entering so I wasn’t thinking about performing at these places. But it’s going to be crazy performing at such a massive place. My mates are really supportive and a few might even be coming to support me.”
Euan’s grandmother Helen Ritchie said: “He is very excited. He has a guitar tutor and a vocal coach who have been supportive and he’s looking to write some more songs.
“There were hundreds of entrants. I think he was nervous until he got there and then he showed he wants it. He lives and breathes his guitar and singing and now he’s got to the regionals. It’s brilliant.
“The judges discussed the song and said it was a good performance and he’d written a good song. hey called him back and said he was through. It was great – we all jumped for joy.”
Euan will be performing at an Open Mic night at the Bull in Olney on Sunday.
