This week Community Action MK is focusing on Alzheimer’s Society.

Volunteers are vital to Alzheimer’s Society’s goal of improving the lives of people living with dementia. They need more volunteers for the following roles.

Support Volunteer - Stony Stratford: Volunteers are needed to support the Alzheimer’s Society’s popular Art & Craft Group in Stony Stratford on a Tuesday morning. This group offers people with dementia and their carers the opportunity to take part in various art & craft activities such as knitting & crochet, drawing & painting or card making.

Volunteers support the Group Facilitator by encouraging people with dementia to participate in activities, chatting to people on a one to one basis, and making and serving tea, coffee and biscuits. Volunteers may also be asked to help set up the room beforehand and tidy up afterwards so they should allow an additional 15 minutes either side of the activity. An interest in art and craft would be useful.

Support Volunteer - Bletchley: Alzheimer’s Society is looking for volunteers for its popular Support and Information Service in Bletchley on a Thursday morning. The service is attended by people with dementia and their carers to receive support and information and socialise in a friendly and supportive environment.

Volunteers support the Group Facilitator by welcoming and greeting people as they arrive, talking and listening to people with dementia and carers, providing basic information such as factsheets and leaflets and making and serving tea, coffee and biscuits. Volunteers may also be asked to help set up the room beforehand and tidy up afterwards so they should allow an additional 15 minutes either side of the activity.

Support Volunteer - Central Milton Keynes: Volunteers are needed to support the Alzheimer’s Society’s popular Art & Craft Group in Central Milton Keynes on a Friday morning. This group offers people with dementia and their carers the opportunity to take part in various art & craft activities such as knitting & crochet, drawing & painting or card making. It also provides a friendly and safe environment for people with dementia and their carers to meet to share information and socialise informally.

For all of the above roles no special skills are required Ideally volunteers will have knowledge of dementia and how it affects people or be willing to learn.
