TWO drivers were lucky to escape with their lives according to police after one of the worst head-on crashes officers have seen.

At around 11.05am on Wednesday, the MG ZS and Mercedes B-Class collided on Lower End Road in Wavendon. The driver of the MG, believed to be in his late 40s, had to be cut out of his car by the fire service before he was transported to John Radcliffe Hospital with a broken pelvis and chest injuries, while the female driver, 53, of the Mercedes was admitted to Milton Keynes General Hospital with chest injuries.

The MG was travelling along the country road from Bedfordshire, while the Mercedes was coming past Wavendon Golf Club when the accident occurred.

Sgt Simon Hills said: “This is one of the worst head-on accidents I have seen. We want to hear from anybody who may have seen the cars prior to the accident to establish just what happened here.

“The drivers could have suffered life threatening injuries, and it’s a frightening scene.”

Anyone who saw either car before the accident should contact Thames Valley Police on 101.
